4.8 from 75 reviews

Tiramisu Truffles are an indulgent, bite-sized dessert inspired by the classic Italian tiramisu. Combining espresso-soaked ladyfingers with creamy mascarpone and white chocolate, these truffles are coated in rich dark chocolate and finished with a dusting of cocoa or chocolate shavings. Perfect for entertaining or a decadent treat, they offer all the flavors of tiramisu in a convenient, elegant form.

Ingredients

Scale

Espresso Mixture

  • 1 cup strong brewed espresso or coffee, cooled

Main Filling

  • 12 ladyfingers (Savoiardi)
  • 8 oz mascarpone cheese
  • 6 oz white chocolate, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Coating and Garnish

  • 8 oz dark or semisweet chocolate, melted (for coating)
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder or shaved chocolate (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Brew and Cool Espresso: Brew a strong cup of espresso or coffee and allow it to cool completely in a shallow bowl. For extra flavor, you may add a teaspoon of sugar or a splash of your favorite liqueur to the coffee.
  2. Soak Ladyfingers: Break the ladyfingers into bite-sized pieces and quickly dip them into the cooled coffee. Avoid soaking them too long so they do not become soggy.
  3. Prepare Mascarpone Mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine the mascarpone cheese, melted white chocolate, and vanilla extract if using. Stir until the mixture is smooth and homogeneous.
  4. Combine Soaked Ladyfingers: Fold the soaked ladyfinger pieces into the mascarpone and white chocolate mixture, mixing thoroughly. Chill the mixture in the refrigerator for 1 to 2 hours until firm enough to handle.
  5. Form Truffles: Using a spoon or small ice cream scoop, scoop out the chilled mixture and roll it into balls. Place the balls on a tray and freeze for 15 to 20 minutes to firm up.
  6. Coat in Dark Chocolate: Dip each chilled truffle into the melted dark or semisweet chocolate, gently tapping off any excess chocolate to achieve a smooth coating.
  7. Garnish and Set: Sprinkle the coated truffles with cocoa powder or chocolate shavings for garnish. Allow the truffles to set at room temperature or in the refrigerator before serving.

Notes

  • Do not oversoak the ladyfingers to maintain the right texture outside and moist inside.
  • For added depth, consider adding a splash of coffee liqueur like Kahlua to the espresso before soaking ladyfingers.
  • Store truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • You can use semisweet or bittersweet chocolate as an alternative for coating depending on your sweetness preference.
  • Let the truffles come to room temperature slightly before serving for optimal flavor and texture.
