Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup water (as needed)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with paper liners to prevent sticking and ensure easy removal of the pupcakes after baking.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour, rolled oats, baking powder, and cinnamon until evenly combined to create a well-distributed dry mixture.
  3. Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, mix the molasses, unsweetened applesauce, vegetable oil, and egg until the mixture is smooth and homogenous.
  4. Combine Wet and Dry: Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined. If the batter feels too thick, add water a little at a time until the mixture reaches a batter-like consistency suitable for spooning into muffin cups.
  5. Fill Muffin Cups: Divide the batter evenly among the prepared muffin cups, filling each about three-quarters full to allow space for rising during baking.
  6. Bake: Place the muffin tin in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes. Use a toothpick to test doneness by inserting it into the center of a pupcake; it should come out clean when done.
  7. Cool Down: Remove the pupcakes from the oven and let them cool completely in the muffin tin before serving to your dogs to avoid any burns or choking hazards.

Notes

  • Ensure the molasses used is unsulfured and suitable for pets to avoid any digestive issues.
  • These pupcakes should be given as treats and not as a replacement for a balanced diet.
  • Store pupcakes in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week or freeze for longer storage.
  • You can substitute vegetable oil with coconut oil for additional health benefits.
  • Always consult with your vet before introducing new treats into your dog’s diet, especially if they have allergies.
