Ingredients

Scale

Cheese Filling:

  • 3 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 3 ounces cheddar cheese, grated
  • 1 to 2 jalapeño peppers, minced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Burgers:

  • 2 lb ground turkey
  • ½ cup almond flour
  • 2 tablespoons finely minced onion
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¾ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon cumin
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons olive oil

Toppings and Serving:

  • 6 slices cooked bacon
  • Optional: lettuce wraps for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare Cheese Filling: In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, grated cheddar, minced jalapeños, and garlic. Mash together thoroughly using a fork or spatula until the mixture is well combined and creamy. Set aside.
  2. Mix Burger Ingredients: In a large bowl, add ground turkey, almond flour, minced onion, salt, black pepper, and cumin. Mix gently but thoroughly to combine all ingredients evenly without overworking the meat.
  3. Form the Patties (Using Burger Press): Place a circle of parchment paper at the bottom of the burger press. Add enough turkey mixture to fill the press halfway, then add another piece of parchment paper on top. Press down to create a well in the center for the filling.
  4. Add Cheese Filling and Seal: Remove the top press along with the parchment paper, then spoon some of the cheese mixture into the well in the patty. Cover with more turkey mixture on top, then use the flat part of the press to seal the edges of the burger tightly.
  5. Hand-Forming (Alternative Method): If not using a press, shape turkey mixture into patties with a well in the center, fill it with the cheese mixture, then carefully seal the edges with remaining turkey to encase the filling.
  6. Prepare to Grill: Preheat a grill to medium-high heat. Lightly brush both sides of the burgers with olive oil to prevent sticking and encourage browning.
  7. Grill the Burgers: Place burgers on the grill and cook for approximately 7 to 8 minutes per side. Use a meat thermometer to confirm an internal temperature of 165ºF is reached to ensure safety and juiciness.
  8. Serve: Top each cooked burger with crispy bacon slices and serve hot on lettuce wraps or your preferred buns for a low-carb option. Enjoy immediately for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Adjust jalapeño quantity based on heat preference, removing seeds for milder flavor.
  • If you don’t have a burger press, hand-form patties carefully to avoid leakage of cheese filling.
  • Use lettuce wraps to keep this recipe low-carb and gluten-free.
  • Ensure burgers reach 165ºF internal temperature for safe turkey consumption.
  • Almond flour acts as a binder and keeps it gluten-free; omit or replace with breadcrumbs if not needed.
  • Leftover burgers can be refrigerated up to 2 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
