Ingredients

Scale

Protein & Dairy

  • 2 cups cooked, shredded chicken (rotisserie chicken works great)
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 (15 oz) jar Alfredo sauce

Vegetables

  • 1 cup frozen peas

Seasonings

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Other

  • 1 (32 oz) bag frozen tater tots

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the casserole.
  2. Mix the Filling. In a large mixing bowl, combine the shredded chicken, Alfredo sauce, sour cream, frozen peas, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly mixed.
  3. Assemble the Casserole. In a 9×13-inch baking dish, spread the chicken and sauce mixture evenly on the bottom. Then, layer the frozen tater tots evenly over the top of the chicken mixture.
  4. Bake the Casserole. Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 35-40 minutes, or until the tater tots are crispy and golden brown and the casserole is bubbling around the edges.
  5. Add Cheese and Finish Baking. Remove the casserole from the oven, sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the top, and return it to the oven. Bake for an additional 5-10 minutes until the cheese is melted and slightly browned.
  6. Serve. Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving to allow it to set and make slicing easier. Enjoy this creamy, crispy comfort dish hot.

Notes

  • Rotisserie chicken is a convenient option, but you can use any cooked shredded chicken.
  • For extra veggies, consider adding sautéed mushrooms or spinach to the filling.
  • If you prefer a spicier kick, sprinkle some crushed red pepper flakes into the mixture.
  • Make sure the tater tots are spread evenly for uniform crispiness.
  • This casserole can be reheated covered in the microwave or oven for leftovers.
