  • 3 Tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Dip Base

  • 16 ounce jar cocktail onions, drained well and chopped
  • 8 ounce block cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 Tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 Tablespoon white granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon horseradish
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley

Instructions

  1. Prepare Onions: Chop the drained cocktail onions into smaller, bite-sized pieces and set aside for mixing into the dip.
  2. Make Breadcrumb Topping: In a skillet over medium heat, melt 3 tablespoons of unsalted butter. Add 1 cup panko breadcrumbs along with 1/2 teaspoon onion powder, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, 1/2 teaspoon paprika, 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Stir continuously until the breadcrumbs achieve a golden brown color. Remove from heat and transfer breadcrumbs to a bowl.
  3. Divide Breadcrumbs: Set aside half of the toasted breadcrumbs for topping the dip later.
  4. Mix Dip Ingredients: To the remaining half of the breadcrumbs in the bowl, add the softened 8-ounce cream cheese block, 1 cup sour cream, 1/2 cup mayonnaise, 2 tablespoons ketchup, 1 tablespoon granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon horseradish, and the additional seasonings including 1/2 teaspoon onion powder, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, 1/2 teaspoon paprika, 1/2 teaspoon oregano, 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional), 1 teaspoon dried parsley, and the chopped cocktail onions. Use a hand mixer to combine all the ingredients until smooth and well blended.
  5. Chill Dip: Transfer the mixed dip to a serving bowl. If not serving immediately, cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate until ready to serve.
  6. Serve with Breadcrumb Topping: Just before serving, sprinkle the reserved toasted breadcrumb mixture and a little extra dried parsley on top of the dip for added texture and visual appeal. Enjoy as a delicious appetizer or party snack!

Notes

  • For best flavor and texture, use freshly toasted panko breadcrumbs and freshly chopped cocktail onions.
  • If not serving right away, refrigerate the dip covered to maintain freshness.
  • The cayenne pepper is optional and can be adjusted or omitted depending on your spice preference.
  • This dip pairs wonderfully with crisp vegetables, chips, or crackers.
  • Allow cream cheese to soften fully before mixing to avoid lumps.
