Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Wet Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs

Main Ingredient

  • 2 cups peeled, cored, and diced apples

Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg until well combined.
  3. Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, beat the milk, melted unsalted butter, and large eggs together until fully mixed and smooth.
  4. Combine Wet and Dry: Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring gently just until combined to avoid overmixing and keep the fritters tender.
  5. Fold in Apples: Gently fold the diced peeled apples into the batter ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout.
  6. Form Fritters: Drop spoonfuls of the batter onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing each fritter apart to allow for expansion during baking.
  7. Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake the fritters for 12-15 minutes or until they turn golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Prepare Glaze: While the fritters bake, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a small bowl until smooth and drizzly to create a sweet glaze.
  9. Cool Fritters: Remove the fritters from the oven and allow them to cool on the baking sheet for several minutes to firm up slightly.
  10. Glaze the Fritters: Dip each cooled fritter into the prepared vanilla glaze, coating completely, then place back on the baking sheet to let the glaze set before serving.

Notes

  • Use tart apples like Granny Smith for a nice contrast with the sweet glaze.
  • Do not overmix the batter to keep fritters light and fluffy.
  • For a dairy-free version, substitute milk with almond or oat milk and butter with coconut oil.
  • Store leftover fritters in an airtight container for up to 2 days; reheat gently before serving.
  • Adjust glaze thickness by adding more or less milk depending on your preference.
